NERVE BOT
This project explores generative art presented as an immersive and interactive video & sound installation. With the use of AI, I have trained the machine learning algorithm to gather images, moulding them together essentially producing a kinetic painting. The audience will have the ability to select a colour from a display key, indicating the machine to search the Google image search engine to collect images it “sees” as relevant. The world is being transformed by technology. In fact, technology has unquestionably become part of it, making it difficult to separate the two. This era is of data as the last was of electricity. As we move from the Mid-digital into the Post-digital world, the concept of “digital” will move into the background much like oxygen or energy. The new generations will presumably be born digitally native. My objective is to recreate the essence of life in digital form. Inspired by the nature of the mind and the universe, this project will consider the comparison between the artificial neural network with the human. What really is the difference between artificial and human cognition? What is the difference in their interpretation of data? What are the hidden processes that form our world and how can we encourage new perspectives in this impressionable world? I’m a slow convert to appreciating digital art as I’m aware of the general reputation of computers as cold and logical machines but I can now appreciate the charm of generative art as a practice where one can surrender control over some aspect of what is being created and appreciate its abstract behaviour. By analysing the way in which a machine registers the world, we may reflect on ourselves and how we make sense of it.
A web based framework that utilises A-Frame for the 3D development. The GLTF models, created in Cinema 4D, are designed to oscillate in order to achieve a bleeding effect while the interactions that manipulate the web framework are produced in Javascript.
This is an experimental project that explores technology as a new medium and is my first play with generative art.
